It is widely known that London is now a hub for raw talent to explore jazz limits and redefine its boundaries. The new bomb is called Kokoroko! An overall fascinating formation which recaptures the torrid exaltation of afrobeat with a disconcerting modernity. Armed with a seismic and entirely feminine brass section, it explores both the energy of a rough funk and the delicacy of traditional West African sounds. On his first eponymous EP, the track «Abusey Jonction» (35 million views on YouTube), inspired by a composition from guitarist Oscar Jérome, highlights the unique struggles faced by black women.
